IT’S OVER: Mets Waive White Flag as Selloff Begins

IT’S OVER: Mets Waive White Flag as Selloff Begins

How’d we get here? How is it July 27th and the Mets are Selling their closer to the Marlins to help them make a playoff push for two Rookie Ball teenagers years away from the possibility of playing in the Big Leagues?

Thursday night at Citi Field with the Mets and Nationals tied 1-1 and the bases loaded David Robertson, perhaps the most consistent Met this season and without a doubt the best arm out of a dreadful bullpen was warming up to pitch the top of the 9th when the game was stopped due an incoming Thunderstorm. An hour and 37 minutes later the game resumed. Mark Chana hit a Sac Fly scoring the go ahead run and Brooks Raley, not David Robertson came out to pitch the 9th for the Mets. During the rain delay Robertson was traded to the Miami Marlins for two low level Rookie Ball prospects.

The Selloff has begun, The white flag has been raised and any hope of a 1973  like magical run to the playoffs has been all but lost.  Robertson was the first but he surely wont be the last in what could a complete breakdown of this team over the next week.

the only players untouchable are: Lindor, Alvarez, Pete Alonso, McNeil, Nimmo, and Baty. Everyone else should be available.  I still don’t think Verlander or Scherzer will get dealt, but thats not to say they aren’t available.

A $365 Million payroll and the Mets are out of it by mid July and selling one of this years best closers to help the Marlins make the Playoffs. This is the Mets fans reality. We got the owner we’ve dremt about for 30 years, The Manager we’ve screamed about getting for the better part of the past decade and for the first time money is no a object and yet we are left with  same disappointment we’ve had for as far back as we can remember.
